Characteristic of a long established neighborhood, Oak Lane is
well served by all types of facilities including Albert Einstein
Medical Center, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, a local post office, libraries, churches, schools and colleges. The Morris Estate
recreation center which has a swimming pool sits directly behind the property and our seniors are welcome to participate in the
centers daily activities and special affairs. A considerable variety of residents of all ages and backgrounds make their home in this area.
THE APARTMENTS
We have 69 apartments and all are 1 bedroom units. All units
have ample closet space, air conditioners in the bedroom and living room, gas heat, emergency pull cords that are connected to the front desk security station, garbage disposals, and complete cooking
facilities. All units are cable ready and has a keyless intercom
system that works through the home telephone line. Ample room sizes in the apartments make it possible to meet all the needs of daily independent living.
SERVICES
The entire ground floor space consists of 9 apartment units, 5 of which are for the handicapped/disabled impaired. Front desk door services are provided after hours from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday thru Friday and 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. Maintenance room is also on the 1st floor level. You can reach maintenance
at 215-927-7234. For your convenience a soda and snack machine is in the 1st floor laundry room. All floors have a laundry room and trash room with a trash compactor. We have a Beauty Salon, Neighborhood Network Center, an active Tenant’s Association, that meets the last Monday of each month in the P.M.H. Auditorium, a Service Coordinator and an Interpreter for our Asian population that’s available to all P.M.H. and P.M.H.-II residents. These
services are located right next door in the main building which is P.M.H. Notices are posted on the bulletin boards providing
residents with things to do or attend. Services and activities are for the residents wishing to participate, expressed through committees and organizations of their own choosing and offer the possibility for substantial enrichment of living.
ACCESSIBILITY
It is easy to reach most sections of the metro area from
Philip Murray House-II. The Broad Street subway, buses, or
automobiles, makes it easy traveling to Germantown, Chestnut Hill,
Oxford Circle, Jenkintown, Abington and of course to the center of
Philadelphia such as South or West Philadelphia.
COST
The building is subsidized by (HUD) Department of Housing and
Urban Development. Rents are based on 30% of the applicants annual
income and medical expenses. If you are eligible for Subsidy your rental amount shall be determined, (when applicant is accepted) by the
management staff. Current market rate rent is $607. minus a $45.
Electricity Utility Allowance. This means that the resident is responsible to pay their own electric bill which will be in their name. Utilities that are included in the rental amount is heat, and water. A typical apartment floor plan is outlined in this pamphlet.
APPLICATIONS
Philip Murray House-II welcomes applicants and inquiries from all
interested persons. Applications are issued Monday—Friday
from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Main Building’s front desk area.
